What was the hardest part of your home renovation?
« on: February 19, 2016, 02:49:30 PM »
I recently had a new conservatory fitted, and by far the hardest part was actually getting planning permission! The council weren't sure about it because my property is in an old part of town with a lot of listed buildings. I won in the end though! What was the hardest part for you?

The hardest part for me was definitely dealing with all the stress involved! It took 2 years to complete the renovation. I didn't realise just how much work there was to be done and how much time it would take. I had to live with family whilst it was being renovated. It was frustrating when things took longer than expected and stressful having to wait so long. I would still do it all over again though!

I think that's the story of every home renovation! Ours was supposed to take 3 months... it took 9! We started replacing the bathroom, only to realise there had been a leak and the floorboards unbeknownst to us were rotting and on their last legs! Worst sinking heart feeling I'd had in years. You wouldn't believe the stress, and the cost.

The hardest part for us was being on high alert all the time with the safety of our little one and our dog. All it takes is one nail or one unfortunately sized piece of plaster and you've potentially got a problem. We had to be very, very careful about always making sure doors were securely shut and certain parts of the house were off-limits during the renovation.
